The World of Elfins and Humans (妖精与人类的世界 Yāojing yǔ Rénlèi de Shìjiè) is the 36th episode of The Legend of Luo Xiaohei.
Description[]
Inside All Living Creatures, Xiaohei and his friends reach level 40, and decide it's time to start completing quests. After completing some quests, they are tasked with climbing the highest mountain in the game, Mt. Panilas.
In the real world, an elfin named Dongdong feels like someone is following him...
Plot[]
Inside All Living Creatures, Panjing and Wuxian watch an elfin player fighting a human player. Panjing is surprised at the creativity of the human in their use of magic abilities, saying that in real life, Elfins often opt to specialize in one ability instead of mixing many of them. Still, the elfin wins the fight. The elfin player approaches them and gloats about being able to defeat any human, but then he remembers that Wuxian is a human too, and gets nervous. Panjing wonders if the game will succeed in reintroducing humans to elfins, and Wuxian adds that it will also reintroduce elfin to humans. Panjing is surprised that the guild’s most crowded mission took place inside a game.
Meanwhile, Xiaohei and his group rest near some rocks. They are now level 40, and things are going smoothly. Still, they’ve only completed 5.88% of the quest. They’re approaching level 200, but haven’t completed any other requirement. Also, they won’t get any special ability until they reach level 60, 100 or 150. The abilities are as follow: at level 10 you get Level Sight, at level 20 you get Self Heal, at level 30 you get Info, at level 60 you get Polymorph, at level 100 you get Flight, and at level 150 you get Spirit Realm. Nobody knows what Spirit Realm does, and nobody’s surpassed level 150, so it’s unknown what other abilities lie ahead.
Shanxin shows that the forums have organized information about high-level players that have been defeated, in a thread called “List of the Fallen”, listing every death of any player above level 100. Some deaths are glitched to death, others AFKed and got pierced, others were stacked with stones, others were poisoned. To “stack someone with stones”, they find their log-off spot and fill it with stones, so that when the player logs on again he’s instantly killed by the stones. Because of that, everybody has to log-off in safe zones or secretly. The only player to reach level 150 died because a scorpion stung him. Xiaobai wonders what Spirit Realm could do, and A-Gen tells her that everybody has a Spirit Realm, so the ability must have done something special besides giving you one. Xiaohei listens without really understanding much of it.
Shanxin says that many players have given up on leveling up. Some are obsessed with the customization sliders at the start of the game, some began collecting the world’s resources, some started shops and business in the cities, forming shopping districts and towns. Though there are no system restrictions, players agreed on a safe zone, and the world became more realistic. Some players are also experiencing different lives: some fly freely as birds, or swim as fishes. That excites Xiaohei, who proposes they try to play as a different animal once they beat the mission. Since they aren’t so weak anymore, Shanxin says it’s time to start completing side-quests.
In the real world, Dongdong is going to school, dressed as a normal human. He feels like someone is watching him…
Back in the game, a group of players are fishing near a body of water. A girl wonders why the fish-players would take the bait, and the girl next to her answers that maybe the fishes have quests to steal food from the hooks. Near the water, inside a store, Xiaohei and his friends complete a quest by giving some items to the store clerk. Xiaobai asks the clerk how he ended up as a NPC, and the man answers that he couldn’t help it since he’s not great at fighting. Working as a clerk is his way to complete quests and level up. While they talk, Xiaohei kills a mosquito, which grants him experience points.
In a snowy forest inside the game, Mr. Fu fights alone against dozens of players. He’s relentless and continuously defeats enemies and gains experience points. However, he’s stopped by a magic attack that stops his movements, and all the enemies attack him at the same time. Once the magic goes away, Fu is quickly defeated. Watching nearby, Qingqiu worries that Fu is going to break the house again.
Meanwhile, Xiaohei and his friends approach their next mission. Xiaobai wonder how the elfins could create a world that large for the sake of a game. Xiaohei points out that it’s impossible for a spirit realm to be that massive, so everything in the game is probably really tiny. A-Gen says that the game machines are probably allowing their consciousness to control bodies created through creation-class powers. That’s his theory, since he’s had a similar experience before. Shanxin mentions that now that they’re of higher level, logging off makes her body feels heavy. On the other hand, Xiaohei feels closer to his real body now. Maybe Shanxin is realizing what it feels like to be an Elfin, now…
Finally, they reach the new quest: climb Mount Panilas. Once they are close enough, the group gets to see the mountain, and realize why the quest is a challenge: the mountain is incredibly high and smooth, like a pillar! Xiaobai wonders how climbing it could be possible, but Xiaohei already has an idea!
