Tanjiu is a character that appears in the Legend of Hei movie and the Legend of Luo Xiaohei webseries.
He's a creation-type elfin who can create spiritual creatures and copies of other elfins. Alongside A-Xian and Moss, Tanjiu is part of the elfin artist trio, a group of elfins who live among humans and work as comic artists. They became acquainted with A-Gen and Luo Xiaohei after attempting to infiltrate the residence of Laojun, while trying to complete one of his challenges. Despite a confrontational first meeting and conflicting interests, they worked together with A-Gen to escape Qingqiu's Spiritual Realm and parted on good, if still somewhat unreconciled terms.
History[]
A-Xian, Moss and Tanjiu were three elfins who lived among the humans, disguised as human comic artists. They worked together and experienced mundane human activities like ordering delivery food. [1] [2]
Breaking into Laojun's Palace[]
The group decided to participate in Laojun’s challenges: a series of vows made by the elfin deity Laojun, in which participants could partake in various challenges in exchange for valuable rewards. They decided to visit Laojun’s home, which was inside his Spiritual Realm, and attempt to complete two challenges: forcing Laojun to fight, which would reward them with the Xuanqing Pill, entering the Suoyu Palace, which would reward them with the Qingling Fruit. [3]

A-Xian, Moss and Tanjiu reached the gates to Laojun’s home, which were guarded by a powerful elfin named Diting, and his dogs. Tanjiu created two copies of Moss and A-Xian [1], and then attacked the dogs, catching Diting’s attention. Diting followed the copies away from the door, leaving it unattended, allowing A-Xian and Moss to get inside Laojun’s Realm, while Tanjiu remained outside. [4]
However, inside the Realm, Moss and A-Xian ran into two powerful elfins named A-Gen and Xiaohei, who defeated them. Moss and A-Xian believed A-Gen was the fabled Lord Xuanli, and Moss gave him an Invocation Stone as an apology for having faced him. After that, A-Xian and Moss left the Realm empty-handed. [5] [3]
Obective: the Shining Pearl[]

Shortly after, A-Xian, Moss and Tanjiu learned through the elfin forums that someone had stolen Laojun’s Shining Pearl, a magical item that allowed Elfins to obtain advanced cultivation quickly, even allowing an elfin to become a deity. Since they felt that obtaining magic material was too difficult in modern times, the elfin trio wanted the Pearl to further their cultivation, and they decided to steal it from however was holding it.[6] Since they had just seen A-Gen and Xiaohei inside Laojun’s palace, Moss reasoned that only A-Gen could have stolen it, and was 60% sure of that. Secretly, the Stone Moss had given to A-Gen worked as a tracking device[7], so, using it, the three elfins followed A-Gen to his home in the countryside, and Tanjiu created a fish-like creature to follow him around. However, A-Gen quickly found the fish, so Tanjiu had to bring it back. [8] Tanjiu then continued following A-Gen’s movements by creating a bird-like creature. [9]
A-Xian, Moss and Tanjiu followed A-Gen until a major incident happened. One day, as he was alone, A-Gen was stopped by a group of five elfins who challenged him to a fight for the Shining Pearl. The Elfins were named Mr. Fu, Qingqiu, Polao, Qianzhen and Jiuxian. Moss was hopeful the fight would give them the chance to steal the pearl, but Jiuxian quickly found them out, and attacked them, revealing their hiding spot. [10] Realizing the situation was too dangerous, A-Xian launched his teleporting coin, but Qianzhen detected it, and using a special sword, blocked the teleportation from happening. A-Xian proposed doing a more complex teleportation method, but Moss reminded him that it’d take too long, so instead they decided to wait.
Moments, later, A-Gen revealed that he didn’t had the Shining Pearl, which Qingqiu confirmed. The pearl was actually in the hands of A-Gen’s friends. Realizing they could work as hostages, Qingqiu decided to capture A-Gen, A-Xian, Moss and Tanjiu. Using a special ring, Qingqiu forced them to enter his Spiritual Realm, a space that could only be opened by Qingqiu. Realizing that fighting the five elfins would be too difficult, everyone entered the Space peacefully.

Qingqiu’s Space was a cozy place with food and tea. The elfin artist trio introduced themselves to A-Gen, revealing that they were artist, and that they wanted the Pearl to advance their cultivation. A-Gen in turn revealed to them that he’s not Xuanli, like they had been led to believe. [6] While talking, A-Gen learned of Tanjiu’s ability to create copies of others, and they came up with a plan to escape Qingqiu’s Realm. Tanjiu created a copy of A-Gen, and A-Gen used a special magic stone to turn their real bodies really small, too small to be noticed. Then, Qingqiu entered the space, and was led to believe that A-Xian, Moss and Tanjiu had escaped. Qingqiu then left to ask for help of his friend Polao, who could detect Elfins, and when Qingqiu went outside, the real A-Gen, A-Xian Moss and Tanjiu left with him. [1]
Once outside, the elfin artist trio decided to let go of the Pearl. Moss confessed to A-Gen that the Stone he had given him in Laojun’s Palace worked as a tracking device, and felt ashamed for it. A-Gen wasn’t angry, and told him he wanted to keep the stone to use it to communicate with them, with the tracking ability removed for it. A-Gen felt bad that all their work had been for nothing, but Moss knew that the pursuit of power was always very hard. Everyone said their goodbyes, and the artists left the area. [7]
Abilities[]
Tanjiu is a creation-type elfin who can produce copies of other elfins capable of tricking powerful elfins such as Diting or A-Gen. He can also create consructs of animals, such as a bird or a fish.
